We decided to go to Ovalle on a whim. It’s a small, provincial city, about 90 minutes from La Serena. We probably should have stayed in Vicuna or checked out La Serena, instead. Ovalle is in the Limari valley, near an archaeological site called the Valle del Encanto. Unfortunately, it turns out the site is 19 km from the city, so a car or taxi is useful. Our guidebook did indicate that getting off a westbound bus and walking 4 km was another option, but we weren’t sure how we would get back. Ultimately, we decided to kill the afternoon in Ovalle. We visited the produce market and a small archaeological museum (Museo del Limari) featuring Diaguita ceramics. In the afternoon we did some bloggery.
